What Is Church Membership?

In 1 Corinthians 12:27, Paul wrote to the church at Corinth, "Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it." One of the first steps in being a faithful follower of Jesus is to become a vital member of a local church body. Here at Bon Air, we take membership in the church seriously. That's because we believe the church is called "the body of Christ" in the Bible for a reason: we are to be vitally and consciously committed to one another as fellow believers in Jesus, promising to share in one another's joys, to bear each others' burdens and sorrows, and to share life together.

When you become a member of Bon Air Baptist Church, you join our church family in a shared commitment. As your church, we commit to help you connect with God’s people, grow in your faith, and use your gifts to build the body of Christ. Your commitment as a member is to be a fully devoted follower of Christ, to support our shared beliefs (our mission, statement of faith, covenant, and core values), to be active in our fellowship (through regular attendance, giving, prayer, and service), and to impact the lives of people in your sphere of influence with the love of Christ.

How to Join

Membership Matters Class

We have a highly informative membership class that covers the church vision, statement of faith, church covenant, leadership style, worship philosophy, and many other areas. The class is offered approximately 3 times a year (fall, winter, spring) as a 4-week class before the Sunday Service. Our hope is to slow you down just enough to help you understand Bon Air with much greater depth and what is expected of you as a member.

Interview with a Pastor

The next step is to set up an interview with a pastor. This is a great opportunity for the pastors to get to know you, hear your testimony, and answer any remaining questions you may have about the church.

Written Testimony

Candidates for membership will write their personal testimony and answer a few other questions. This will then be published in the church newsletter for the members of Bon Air.

Church Vote

You will be asked to attend a Members Meeting where you will stand before the congregation and affirm your personal trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and the hope of eternal life. Afterward, the church will vote on receiving you as a new member of our church family!
