Our History

How We Got Here

We are a Christian, Protestant, Baptist church. We affirm our continuity with the Christian church through the ages, we stand together with the Protestant Reformers in affirming salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone as taught by Scripture alone for God's glory alone, and we look to our Baptist tradition for our governance and practice of worship.

Bon Air Baptist Church is part of the Southern Baptist Convention. We are united with the SBC in believing that the Bible is God’s inerrant Word, that conscious trust in Jesus Christ is the only way for a person to be saved, and that we have the responsibility to take the Good News to the ends of the earth.

Historically, Bon Air Baptist Church was organized in 1943 and moved to its present location in the Bon Air subdivision of the Bluemont neighborhood in 1949. The story of Bon Air began with a church driven by a commitment to serve the community and an eagerness to glorify Christ and praise his name. There have been many precious moments – moments and memories that we all cherish. Bon Air is thankful for its history and its heritage in Christ. However, the Bon Air story is not, by any means, over. By the grace of God and our service to him, the story will continue for years to come. We believe God has called us to continue pushing his mission forward by reinvigorating as a church and reaching skeptics and doubters in the Bluemont neighborhood of Arlington.
